Banded Crickets Beat Their Rivals In Nutritional Tests

Banded crickets (also known as Brown Crickets) are far more nutritious than their rival Black Crickets and Silent Crickets in recent laboratory tests. Brown (Banded) crickets were proved to have a higher calorific value and to contain higher levels of protein than both their rivals.

Brown, Banded Crickets

Brown (banded) crickets are probably the best value for money when it comes to live foods.

Each and every week throughout the year Livefoods Direct breeds a minimum of 800,000 Banded crickets.  They provide a high nutritional diet for Birds and reptiles. Crickets are nurtured on a very high fibre diet consisting of Progrub; a mix of our unique brand of ingredients. Banded Crickets (Gryllodes Sigullatus) are the biggest selling Brown Crickets that we farm and are native to the Tropics – India.

Banded Crickets have an amazing growth rate, taking 35-42 days from hatching out of their egg pod to being able to reproduce themselves if kept in ideal conditions.

Banded Crickets are available in the 6 sizes listed below:

  • Banded (Brown) Crickets Adult Size 6 (17-20mm)
  • Banded (Brown) Crickets Large Size 5 (14-18mm)
  • Banded (Brown) Crickets Medium Size 4 (10-15mm)

Banded crickets must be kept in a cool dry place between 16-20 degree celsius. Banded Crickets that have been travelling overnight by courier or postal service, may need to be transferred on arrival depending on the quantities, to a tank with a tight-fitting well ventilated lid to stop them from getting too warm.

Banded Crickets need perching areas which can be provided in the form of cardboard egg cartons. This is also to reduce stress to the Banded Crickets which will reduce cannibalism. A small saucer of progrub can also be placed in with the Banded Crickets.

Fresh carrot or cabbage leaves may be provided, ensure that any carrot or cabbage is washed and that any pesticide trace is very low. Feed the Banded Crickets daily, any uneaten old leaves should be removed from the Banded Cricket habitat.

Looking for Silent Crickets?

WE BREED 200,000 SILENT CRICKETS EVERY WEEK

Silent CricketsSilent crickets can be purchased in different sizes and different packs depending on the quantity and the size the customer requires. Packs vary from plastic pre pack tubs containing as few as 25 adult crickets to cloth sacks of crickets containing up to 500 of whatever size cricket the customer requires.

Silent crickets should be stored in a cool, dry, dark place – ideally between 16-20 degrees centigrade. Silent crickets that have been travelling overnight by courier or in the post need to be transferred to suitable storage containers on arrival. A deep container with smooth sides such as a glass or plastic tank with a very well ventilated but tight fitting lid is ideal. The crickets need perching areas to reduce stress. These can be provided in the form of cardboard egg trays which are ideal. A small saucer of Progrub placed in the tank will provide the crickets all the nutrition they need. Water can be given to the crickets by providing Solidwater gel available from Livefoods Direct.

Because silent crickets are a tropical species they do not travel well in extremely cold weather and may appear dead on arrival if temperatures fall below zero degrees Celsius in transit. If this should happen the crickets should be left in their shipping container and moved to a very warm room immediately. After 30 minutes the crickets should recover and can be handled and transferred to their storage container in the normal manner.
